Ministry and Work Experience

Present - 1999 District Superintendent of the Western District of EFCA
Dr. Gil has launched an aggressive leadership development and church health program that has resulted in a doubling of the number of people attending EFCA churches in the region. (In 1999 the district had 4200 people attending 47 churches, by 2001 there were 9700 people attending 45 churches.) As the Pastor at Large of this growing district Dr. Gil has helped pastors and church leaders realize and focus on the 10 major systems operating in a church. Through small group mentoring and large conference presentations Dr. Gil has helped pastors and lay leaders expand the work of God through out the region.

Present - 2000 Adjunct Professor at Western Seminary Sacramento Extension
Because of his work with the Pastors in the Northern California Region Western Seminary Extension in Sacramento asked him to teach and train more leaders through the Seminary. Dr. Gil teaches courses in Preaching, Advanced Preaching, Spiritual Warfare and Leadership Development.

Present - 1995 Founder and President of Principles To Live By
Principles to Live by is a non profit ministry that presents, applies, and demonstrates God's unchanging principles of life to individuals, families, churches, business and communities so that they might fulfill their unique purposes and fully express the good works that God has designed for them.

1999 - 1994 Adjunct Professor at Talbot Theological Seminary
Beginning in 1994 Dr. Gil was given the privilege to teach at Talbot Theological Seminary. He was asked to teach a course in how the church can impact the society and culture. This course promotes the Biblical idea that God has a plan for the individual, for the family, for the Church, and the Society. It challenges the notion that Christianity is a private religion. This was a wonderful opportunity to mentor and disciple young men and women in ministry.

1999 - 1996 Instructor for Church Growth Institute; Forest, Virginia
Dr. Gil was a part time traveling representative for Church Growth Institute instructing pastors, church leaders and individuals on issues of Church Health and Church Growth. Dr. Gil specialized in presenting a seminar he developed: Growing a Healthy and Vibrant Church ; Overcoming the Major Barriers to Church Growth and Health.

1999 - 1982 Senior Pastor; Twin Lakes Community Church EFCA
Dr. Gil led this church for 17 years from a small local church to a regional ministry center on the Eastern side of the Antelope Valley. Twin Lakes Community Church was a leader in intentional ministry in Southern California. Dr. Gil championed an intentional form of ministry that focused on the purposes of the Church: Worship; Discipleship; Evangelism; Fellowship and Compassion.

1998 - 1995 Senior Pastor: Westside Community Church Plant from TLCC
Dr. Gil along with the Twin Lakes staff planted a satellite church an hour away from the mother church to increase the outreach potential of the church and the gospel in a growing section of the Antelope Valley.

1996 - 1995 Principles To Live By; Radio and Tape Ministry
Dr. Gil was the host of a weekly live call in show in which the principles of the Scripture could be applied to real life situations and problems.

1982 - 1978 Substitute Teacher Public High School
While attending Talbot Seminary, Gil worked as a Substitute Teacher in various public school districts around the Seminary. This experience allowed Gil to ground what he was learning in Seminary in the real world. This was also a place to do evangelism and understand group leadership.

1981 - 1982 Pastoral Intern; Garden Grove Evangelical Free Church
This was a valuable time of preparation for Senior Pastoral ministry. This church, its diverse community setting and its gifted pastor were helpful in demonstrating another unique style and flavor of local church ministry.

1978 - 1981 Youth Pastor at Norwalk Grace Brethren Church
While attending Biola University Gil served this local church as a volunteer Youth Pastor. The discipling and mentoring program that was and proved successful has been the basis for rest of Gil's ministry.

1981-1977 Truck Driver for Coca- Cola Bottling Co.
During the summers and Christmas break Gil worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. Workings within a large corporate structure and for various bosses were instructive in evaluating styles of leadership.

1977 - 1975 Youth Consultant for Japanese Evangelical Missionary Society
Gil was a consultant for a JEMS youth outreach ministry in Torrance. This exciting ministry targeted Asian American students for Evangelism and Discipleship.

1977 - 1975 Door to Door Salesman for Southwestern Book Publishing
For three summers Gil sold books door to door in the Mid-West. It was during this time that he learned important leadership and people skill lessons. He also learned the importance of a compelling presentation, the power of listening skills and crucial importance of personal discipline. In his final summer he was one of the top 100 sales people in his division of thousands.

1975 - 1973 Youth Director for El Sobrante EFC
Gil served as youth director at his home church while attending Contra Costa Community College. This was a valuable lesson in leadership of peers.

Our History:

Principles To Live By began as an extension of Dr. Gil Stieglitz' ministry at the Twin Lakes Community Church. As a result of the number of marriages that were being turned around and saved at the church, word began to spread about the powerful teaching ministry at the Twin Lakes Church. The unique style and revolutionary Biblical principles being taught to men and women caused a number of people from other churches to ask if they could get tapes or have Dr. Gil come and speak at their church.

A local Christian radio station asked Dr. Gil to fill in for a talk-show host who was on vacation. This led to a weekly radio ministry for Dr. Gil. He was asked to develop a one hour call in radio program where He taught the principles of Bible and people could call in with questions, comments and various problems. Principles To Live By was the name of the program. Dr. Gil applied God's solutions to the common problems that Christians and non Christians faced. The call in radio program then gave rise to sermon tapes being broadcast on the radio during the week also. This increased the exposure of Dr. Gil's teaching ministry and caused him to develop a seminar ministry.

In 1994 Gil was asked to teach at Talbot School of Theology a course in The Church and the Society. The course proved popular and life changing for many of the students. Gil was repeatedly asked by the seminary students to do seminars and retreats for their churches. This further expanded the demands for materials from Dr. Gil's teaching ministry and for travel away from the ministry of the Twin Lakes Community Church. The elders of the church graciously allowed Gil to pursue many of these opportunities.

In the spring of 1995 Dr. Gil was asked to travel and lecture for Church Growth Institute of Forest, Virginia. This was a part time opportunity that allowed Gil to expose his material to a broader audience across the United States. While continuing at Twin Lakes Community Church full time, He lectured across the country in Alabama, Louisiana, Washington D.C., Maryland, New Mexico, Georgia, Virginia, California, etc. This increased the demand for the materials from Principles To Live By.

This led to the elders of the church designating Principles To Live By a separate ministry of the Twin Lakes Community Church under the direction of Dr. Gil Stieglitz and the guidance of the Board of Elders.

In 1999 Gil was asked to become the District Superintendent of the Western District of the Evangelical Free Churches of America. Reluctantly he left the pastoral ministry at Twin Lakes Community Church to help pastors in Northern California and Nevada increase the health and size of their ministries. The principles that had worked so well at Twin Lakes and through the various seminars were given to the pastors of the Evangelical Free Churches in the Western District. In the first 2 years the attendance at the Western District churches more than doubled.

Since becoming District Superintendent for the WDEFC, Dr. Gil has been able to speak to an even wider group of churches, Christians and groups. He has worked with men's groups on designing a purity program for overcoming the temptations to lust and impurity. He has helped churches implement an assimilation strategy to retain visitors in their churches. He has encouraged people to walk closer to God with specific Biblical steps. He has been asked by a number of churches and conference centers to speak on and work with Marriages and Families. These expanding opportunities are an exciting outgrowth of the dream of providing God's powerful principles to as many people as possible.

Principles To Live By seeks to be a clear voice for God's principles of life. God has principles for every area of life that will result in a new quality of life if followed. God has sent His Son Jesus Christ to be sacrifice for our sins so that we might enjoy the wonder of eternal life. (John 17:3) It is amazing that many Christians are living in spiritual poverty, not enjoying the fullness of the Christian life. Principles To Live By seeks to bridge that gap with practical, biblical, compelling presentations of the truths of God's word. As the ministry continues to expand we would love to see you partner with us so that we could reach more people with the wonder of a fully orbed Christian life.
