Proverbs 25:6
"Do not claim honor in the presence of the king and do not stand in the place of great men"
It is the height of arrogance to boast of your gifts and abilities in the presence of your leader. This does not endear you to the people above you to constantly be claiming significance and stature in front of them. Most who do this are really trying to get noticed or see themselves as better than their bosses.
It is unfortunate in our culture that this practice of boasting about yourself is accepted and considered the norm – especially in the hiring process. It is the wise man or woman who realizes that even if you have to trumpet your strengths and abilities to get the job, those around you would be more pleased if you toned it down once you got the job.
Let someone else declare that you are worthy of great accolades. I believe that the process of being your own herald diminishes your accomplishments in the eyes of those who see your advertising campaign.
