Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 12:16

"A fool's anger is known at once, but a prudent man conceals dishonor"

The fool or selfish and impulsive person immediately lets people know in words, actions, and attitude that they did not get what they were expecting. This lack of expectation is the source of much anger. “My expectations were not met.” As you grow in wisdom, you realize that it is not healthy for you to let everybody know that you had an expectation that was not met – that everything did not go your way.

As you grow in wisdom, you begin to realize that it is not healthy if everything were to go your way. Much of our expectations are selfish: I want to win all the time; I want to be noticed positively all the time; I want to make the most money; I want everyone to be interested in my ideas; I expect that everyone will feel sorry for me for a long time; I was hoping that I would be the center of attention at school. All of these types of expectation can trigger anger when they are not met. It is much more mature that a person realize they should not play God or think that they could.

The wise or prudent individual realizes that there will be many times when what they want or expect to happen in their perfect world will not happen. So one's disappointment or anger should be hidden. When something other than what you wanted to happen happens, find a way to go with the flow rather than fighting it and insisting that it would have been better if things had completely broken your way.

It is dishonorable or devaluing to be angry because you did not get your own way. If people see you as a whiner or complainer when things don't go your way, then you will be devalued in their eyes. Just realize that God is God and many times He does not ask you what He will allow to happen. Go with it...

Until tomorrow,
