Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 26:16

"The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can give a discreet answer."

The sluggard, in this verse, continues the tendency to avoid hard work. Since holding his tongue and thinking how to say something positive is hard work, he or she does not do it. They just let what they are feeling or thinking just come rushing out of their mouth.

The sluggards always have something to say and that causes them to think that they are wise, but it really means that they are being lazy. They do not evaluate whether what they are thinking needs to be said or would add to the discussion.

The word discreet is the word tasty and well placed. It means that the kind of answer that the really wise person gives is the one that says the important information, but it goes down well in the lives of the hearer. The sluggard does not go to the hard work of finding that way to say things.

Until tomorrow,
