"For the upright will live in the land and the blameless will remain in it"
upright
This is the Hebrew word yasar which means uprightness. Those who follow God's moral code would be the closest thinking here. They have committed themselves to His boundaries.
will live in the land
This was quite a promise when you consider that it was still in the people's mind that a foreign army could sweep through and take you to a new place. This happened all the time in the time of the judges. It also happened throughout that region.
God was promising that if the people would follow His law – not their own selfish impulses – that they would not be conquered and relocated.
How does this impact our lives? When an individual and a culture begin pushing past the boundaries of God's law – even if they do not believe in the law – it weakens the strength of that person or culture where it will be washed away at the next financial catastrophe.
