"He presented another parable to them, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field'"
The parable of the mustard seed and the leaven seem to be teaching the same principle that the kingdom begins small – in fact invisible and inconsequential – and it grows into something that has huge influence.
The small acts of sowing the seed of the gospel always seems insignificant and worthless. But what grows from those small gospel acts changes everything. What is the smallest seed in the garden becomes one of the biggest plants of the garden.
We must remember that when we are tempted to feel as though the small insignificant right act that is before us is not worth doing. We do not know how God will use this little thing to bring about His kingdom purpose.
The Christian life is not trying to make the big splash, the huge thing but to sow the powerful, almost invisible seeds of the kingdom. They will do their work! Sometimes we get caught up in the spirit of our age and feel that we must pursue the big, the noticeable, the powerful, when the way of the kingdom seed is to start invisible and permeate everything.
