Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 16:29

"A man of violence entices his neighbor and leads him in a way that is not good"

entices

This is the Hebrew word pathah which means to allure, to be simple, to entice.

violence

This is the Hebrew word hamas which means violence, wrong, harm. Solomon is trying to say that the key action that you are looking for to understand about the moral nature and character of a person is that they consistently need to entice or seduce or draw their neighbor into being the victim in their scheme to get what they want.

It is not so much that they are violent as that they are willing to have harm befall you so that they can get more. Their need is for their thing and they need patsies or fall guys.

The man of harm or wrong is always enticing his neighbor into a scheme or plan or idea that sounds good but is especially good for the one person.

not good

Solomon says that every time the man of wrong or violence leads someone somewhere, it does harm to the person and not benefit to the person.

This kind of person needs others to receive the harm or pain or consequences so that they can receive the blessings. I have heard of this kind of person in business, in the church, in the social organization, in the family, etc. This kind of person does exist today, and we would do well to pay attention to Solomon's advice. This person needs volunteers, followers, suckers. It does not have to be you. They are not in this for your benefit; they are in it for their own benefit.

Until tomorrow,

Gil Stieglitz
