Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 1:13

"We will find all kinds of precious wealth, we will fill our houses with spoil"

It is a goal of wisdom and everyone to have a storehouse full of treasure so that they can pull it out and live off of it. This is a reasonable goal for everyone. It is the wicked who pursue it through violence and immorality. It is the foolish who pursue it through impulse and get-rich-quick schemes. It is the righteous that pursue it through diligence and time.

Do not be tempted to profit by destroying the lives of others. Do not be tempted to try and gain all the wealth you will need to live off quickly in one deal. It doesn't work that way.

Notice that Solomon refers to precious wealth of all different kinds. The idea of precious wealth is those things that everyone wants and holds personally dear – the things that a person will protect and value. The path of wisdom receives these as a result of hard work, wisdom, and as gifts from God's hand. The fool tries to claim them quickly and without working through stealing, scheming, violence, or the like. The very precious things that they desire will not have the same taste because of how they are obtained.

Until tomorrow,

Gil Stieglitz
