"Throw in your lot with us, we shall all have one purse"
One of the typical con games of those who are swindlers is that they advance a little to those they are trying to con and this convinces the gullible person that they are in on the take; and then the masters begin to milk the unsuspecting person either of money, work, time, expertise, access, or some other valuable commodity. All the while the person believes that they are sharing everything equally.
lot
This is the Hebrew word goral which means lot or portion or allotted portion. It could be land or money or some possession. In this instance it seems to be some amount of money that the rebel has and that the thieves want to have their hands in. They convince the person with some money to share their money with the whole group because the whole group will share everything with them when they have some funds.
The difficulty of everyone having one purse is that there is always an unequal distribution of goods collected. There is also always an uneven amount of work accomplished. There will always be inequities with this system. It sounds good in principle, but it does not work in practice.
Take the lot that God gave you and make it bloom for the glory of God through wisdom, hard work, and good planning.
Until tomorrow,
