Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 8:25

"Before the mountains were settled, before the hills I was brought forth"

Solomon is reaching for ways to explode the ancient nature of wisdom in the minds of his hearers. Wisdom has been around much longer than the most stable constant thing in your world, the mountains, and the hills.

We embrace the idea that we have access to the same wisdom that planned the universe, the stars, the earth, and the hills. We can do better than just exist or muddle through; we can actually express wisdom even in a fallen, broken world.

God calls us back through Solomon's imagery to the time when there was nothing fixed or settled about the earth – when it was still covered in water and undetermined. It was God's wisdom that planned out the various ways it would be formed and the various shapes that it would take.

Before the hills or mountains ever came to be, your life was plotted and God knew you. He knew that if you choose a particular thing, then certain choices and a certain result will come from it. He knew that if you choose something different, then a whole host of different choices and results would become available to you. We can choose wisely and change our destiny, or we can choose foolishness and destroy our potential. Use the wisdom that God has made available.

Until tomorrow,

Gil Stieglitz
