Breakfast with Solomon - Proverbs 8:27

"When He established the heavens, I was there, when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep"

The ancient origins of wisdom are being celebrated in this proverb. Solomon speaks of the eternality of wisdom in this section. God puts on display the wisdom that He alone possesses: the application of knowledge, its interconnections, the fine detail, the understanding of the consequences of billions of different actions, the construction of a world in which everybody wins.

when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep

This passage and others like Job 26:10 and Isaiah 40:22 are what caused many to understand that the ancient Hebrews understood that the earth was a globe. The idea is that God, in His use of wisdom, has brought forth the circle as a way to boundarize the planet.

This passage should cause you to celebrate the wisdom of God and the amazing interconnections of creation. As we find out more and more of creation we find detail, design, and wonder at every level we penetrate.

The point is that if God used wisdom to create the universe, then we should use wisdom to live in the universe. Look for the everybody-wins choice.

Until tomorrow,
