"House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers but a prudent wife is from the Lord."
house and wealth are an inheritance from fathers
It is a great thing if one's father has been wise and forward thinking long enough that they can help a young couple get into their first house. It is such a blessing. Even in that day it was important to have the father’s help in the economic stability and development of a young couple by assisting in the largest acquisition of the couple.
I would like to go on record as declaring that my wife and I would not have been able to purchase our house without the generosity and foresight of my father. His generous support of our family has been incredible.
but a prudent wife is from the Lord
The verb prudent is the Hebraic idea of the ability to dispassionately look at the situations of life; to view life from a reasonable position and not an emotional one. It means to manage one’s affairs with skill no matter which way the emotional, political, or relational winds are blowing.
There is a detachment in this word; a shrewd management that is oriented towards a worthy goal. There is an orientation to the ability to look at a decision or situation from both the T side and the F side.
The word prudent also carries with it the idea of planning for the future; seeing the future and doing what it takes in the present to be ready for the future.
I must cause the girls to see life as the result of the choices they have made in the past or to look to the future to know what to do in the present. Don't spend it all now or there won't be much later. Don't eat it all or you will have to exercise that much more or be fat. Their eventual husbands will be forever grateful if I teach, pray, and force into them prudence.
It is not common for a woman to be able to escape the gravity of her emotional circumstances. When she does this, then she is considered prudent. This is surely a gift from the Lord. When she can take a step back from what she is feeling and what is coming at her, then this is a gift from God. When everything says spend but there is a limited budget and she does not spend, she is being prudent.
